Faceted Stone Setting in Metal Clay

We offer taster experiences for those who have yet to experience the joys of working with metal clay, where you work the clay (like clay!) into the desired form, dry it and fire it into metal. And refine the fired metal using traditional metalworking skills. This workshop is a great way to experience both traditional and modern metalworking in creating a unique piece of jewellery.

What is Metal Clay?

Metal clay is a material consisting of very small particles of metal such as silver, bronze, copper or gold mixed with an organic binder and water for use in making jewellery and other small objects. It is considered a “modern” material where you can create professional jewellery without the years of training usually required.

Come experience this magical material by joining one of our workshops below.

Stone Set Pendant

In our pendant workshop (over 2 sessions), learn how to create a base in either bronze or copper clay, set a faceted stone (using high quality CZs), dry up and clean up the piece while it is in a clay state in the 1st session.

We fire it up in a kiln over 2 firings (totalling 8 hours) to transform the clay into metal. In session 2, you return to further refine the fired metal piece and assemble it into a beautiful pendant.

Group Workshop Fee: $220/person (1 pendant in bronze or copper).

Class size: Maximum 4 pax. For big group workshops, enquire with us.

Duration: 3.5 hours over 2 sessions. Session 1: 2hours | Session 2: 1.5 hours

Stone Set a Ring

Our ring workshop is conducted over 2 sessions.

In Session 1 (2.5 hours), use traditional silversmithing skills to make a ring base with inscriptions inside, create textures using fine silver clay (99.9% pure silver), set a faceted stone or more if you’d like (using high quality CZs) and attach granules (tiny silver balls). We offer sapphires/rubies instead of CZs at extra cost.

We fire it up in a kiln (4 hours) to transform the clay into metal.

In session 2 (2 hours), you return to further refine the fired metal piece with the option of patinating (blackening the surface) it.

Group Workshop Fee: $280/person (1 ring in pure silver). Extra $20 to patinate.

Class size: Maximum 4 pax. For big group workshops, enquire with us.

Duration: 4.5 hours over 2 sessions. Session 1: 2.5hours | Session 2: 2 hours
